Malabo Dos The oil's money
Chinese companies are developing in Equatorial Guinea a massive construction plan. It is being carried out around the two great cities of the country: Malabo, the capital, and Bata. Malabo Dos and Bata Dos are the names of these megaprojects of urbanization. Deforested areas are the frame where apartments of six floor high rise, even without the urbanized streets, sewage system or any potable water pipe.
China has great interest in Africa’s natural goods and trade. In 2003 the commerce of this one country with Africa was already about 10,000 million dollars and a year later, in 2004, around 20,000 million. Chinese companies develop in Bata the construction of tanks where to store to oil and the gas extracted before its load in ships. It is also in project the construction of a refinery that would allow Equatorial Guinea to elaborate its own fuel and other derivatives.
In 2001 China reduced the external debt of Equatorial Guinea, now
the great Asian country imports petroleum and tropical wood that often returns as manufactured furniture to the African country. The last official visit from Obiang to China was for the China-Africa’s cooperation Forum in 2006.
